Die „Manhattan Connection“ zwischen der Delaware Nation of Moraviantown, Ontario, Kanada, und den deutschen Herrnhuter Missionaren – Eine transatlantische Begegnung über vier Jahrhunderte hinweg.
Auf einem Roadtrip vom Reservat der Delaware Nation im kanadischen Waldland bis nach Herrnhut in der Oberlausitz enthüllen Häuptling Greg Peters und der Frankfurter Pfarrer Werner Schneider-Quindeau eine noch nie erzählte, gemeinsame Geschichte der ursprünglichen Einwohner von Manhattan mit deutschen Missionaren, in Zeiten von Flucht, Vertreibung, Landverlust, Mission und kulturellen Auseinandersetzungen.
Während der Vertreibung trafen die ursprünglichen Bewohner von Manhattan, die Lenape, später Delaware genannt, auf die deutschen Herrnhuter Missionare (Moravian missionaries), und sie lebten 170 Jahre zusammen, bis 1903. Danach hörten sie nie wieder voneinander.
Jetzt begegnen sie sich wieder. Auf einer Reise durch Deutschland und die Tschechische Republik finden Chief Peters und seine Delegation Spuren ihrer Geschichte.
Werden sie in den Archiven der Missionare die erhofften Hinweise auf ihren Landverlust finden?Und kann ihre Vision von Verständigung und Versöhnung Wirklichkeit werden?
Ein Film über lang vergessene Begegnungen im Hier und Heute.

Content
The „Manhattan Connection“ between the Delaware Nation of Moraviantown, ON, Canada and the German Moravian missionaries – A transatlantic encounter spanning four centuries.
On a road trip from the Delaware Nation reservation in the Canadian Woodlands to Herrnhut in Upper Lusatia, Chief Greg Peters and Frankfurt pastor Werner Schneider-Quindeau reveal a never-before-told shared history of the original inhabitants of Manhattan with German missionaries, in times of flight, displacement, land loss, mission and cultural clashes.
During the expulsion, the original inhabitants of Manhattan, the Lenape, later called Delaware, met the German Moravian missionaries, and they lived together for 170 years, until 1903, after which they never heard from each other again.
Now they meet again. On a journey through Germany and the Czech Republic, Chief Peters and his delegation find traces of their history.
Will they find the hoped-for clues to their loss of land in the missionaries‘ archives?And can their vision of understanding and reconciliation become a reality?
A film about long-forgotten encounters in the here and now.
